We will put the date here when it is set, and not before. There is no mailing list to join and no countdown to watch.

On foot

• The bronze of Duke stands on Kūhiō Beach, a few hundred steps southeast along Kalākaua, four or five minutes. The beach and the avenue are named for Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole.
• Kalia, where he grew up, is at the far end of the same beach, about twenty minutes the other way, past the Hilton Hawaiian Village. That is the ground his grandfather claimed as a kuleana in the Māhele of 1848.
• The Waikīkī Historic Trail runs past both. Marker five is the statue.

Getting here

• TheBus and the Waikīkī trolley both run along Kalākaua Avenue.
• Valet and self parking are the hotel’s, not ours, and are charged at the hotel’s rates. Confirm at the door.
• From Daniel K. Inouye International Airport it is about twenty five minutes by car without traffic, and considerably more with it.

Parking rates and validation are not confirmed. Ask us before you assume.

Access

• The gallery is on the ground floor and is reached step-free from Kalākaua Avenue through the hotel lobby.
• There are chairs in the film alcove and the film runs about ten minutes.
• If you need something we have not thought of, ask us, and we would rather you asked before you came than found out at the door.

Door widths, restroom access and the accessible route through the hotel will be measured and published here before the room opens, rather than described in general terms.

Who we are

• The gallery uses Duke Kahanamoku’s name, signature and creed under license from his rights holders. It is not run by the family, and it does not speak for them.
• It is a commercial space. It sells work, and it is a tenant of the Moana Surfrider rather than part of the hotel.

The operating company and the licensor will be named here in full before the room opens. A commercial space using a Hawaiian man’s name should say plainly who is behind it, and this paragraph is not finished until it does.
